Frequently Asked Questions
What is Repel?
REPEL is an insecticide and repellent for horses.
This means that REPEL not only repels, (keeps insects away,) but it kills them too, thereby reducing the vector population in your stable yard.
How does it kill & repel insects?
REPEL attacks the nervous system of insects, over exciting them, causing muscle spasms, paralysis and death. In this state, insects are unable to “latch on” or bite your horse.
WHICH INSECTS WILL IT REPEL FROM MY HORSE?
REPEL, has a repellent or “kill” factor on:
-
MIDGES
-
MOSQUITOS
-
TICKS
-
FLIES
Which diseases will be carried by these insects?
-
AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS

Why is repel so effective?
REPEL is the only product that kills or repels insects BEFORE THEY BITE. The active ingredient emulsifies with the solvent creating a unique formulation which can be applied to your horse directly and safely.
The solvent is of the highest quality and evaporates from the coat leaving behind a “residue” of active product which protects your horse from insects.
Is it safe to use on my horse?
YES! REPEL is safe to use on horses as the active ingredient is “NO” to “LOW” toxicity.
Horses skin is porous and absorbs products which are used on the coat. These products enter the blood stream and toxic products can cause your horse to become very ill and even die.
How long does it last?
Unlike many commercially available products, (which only have an active life span of 2 to 4 hours in optimum conditions), Repel will last on your horse until it is washed, groomed or sweated off. Giving you peace of mind during the dusk and dawn period when midges and mosquitoes are most prevalent.
How often should I apply Repel?
REPEL SPRAY:
Repel spray should be applied to your horse twice a day for optimum protection. In the morning, (after grooming) and before the horse goes out. In the evening (after grooming).
If the horse sweats excessively or is hosed off, it is wise to repeat the spraying process.
Using the fine mist spray nozzle on your bottle, start behind the ears and work down the neck, covering the full body with the spray.
Pay special attention to the legs, right down to the hooves as this is where the ticks climb up.
The tail should also be sprayed.
Since midges find it easier to bite the soft skin around the eyes, muzzle, under the stomach and tail, it is a good idea to spray onto a cloth and wipe these areas thoroughly.
REPEL BALM has been formulated to offer protection in these soft skin areas.
